Choosing Computer Data Recovery Software
If you go searching for computer data recovery software you'll find quite a few companies with products that will help you undelete that computer data you've lost. But what should you be looking for when it comes to buying this type of software?
The first thing to remember is to make sure it's compatible with your operating system, so don't going buying a product that's designed for Window and try using it on a Mac, it's just not going to work. Then you need to ensure that the product will work on which ever version you've got installed on your computer. Most software will cope with a wide range of versions e.g. Windows 95 through to Windows 7, but if you've got a particular old version or very a new one make doubly sure it'll work on your computer before buying.
The next thing to consider is ease of use. You've gone to open a file and you realise it isn't there. You look in your recycle bin, you do a search on your computer and it's just not there any longer. It seems likely you've deleted at some point but you're not sure when. When you do computer data recovery you'll find that you delete an awful lot of things even in a relatively short time.
This means there can be an awful lot of data to look through which can be made worse if you're not sure of its exact name, a common problem with things like photos that you might have deleted. The best software will come with a preview facility built in so that you can look at a thumbnail of the data before you go through the recovery process. This can save you a huge amount of time whilst searching.
Even better is the fact that many of the products are available for free download in a limited version. This allows you to install the software, run it and not only see how easy or not it is to use but it also allows you to see if you can locate the missing computer data. Although you won't be able to restore it you can then go ahead and purchase the software knowing you'll be able to undelete your file or files.
So what if you can't locate your file. Well the best thing to do is to try another product and see if you have any better luck with that. If you still can't find the data you're looking for then there's a good chance that it's been overwritten and probably lost for good. If that's the case and the data is very important then a computer data recovery service will have to be your next step. They are more expensive than using software solution but often you only pay if they are able to restore your data.
