Data File Recovery

Computers are wonderful things in many ways, they help us keep in contact with people, they help us shop, find out information, do homework, do office work, etc. And while w are doing all this we are constantly adding data to our computer. It might be your reports for work or it can be storing bookmarks for websites and forums or we might upload our holiday photos. Bit by bit we get to rely heavily on our computer, so if things go wrong and we lose our data it can be a real headache.

One of the easiest ways data is lost is when we delete things. That's usually fine as it simply sits in our recycle bin from which it can be retrieved if necessary. But one day you'll decide to empty it and a couple days after you've emptied the bin you realise that one of the files now gone had some important information contained in it.

Luckily the data file is probably still there. Although your operating system, be it Windows or Mac, considers it deleted the disk space it was using doesn't get over-written straight away. You can't see it but it is still there. Eventual though, that space it is using will be re-used and the file will then be lost. Also if you defragment your hard drive after deleting the file the chances of recovering it are greatly reduced.

If you've been good and doing regular backups of your hard disk, then you may find the file or files you have lost and be able to do a restore from there. If you haven't been doing backups then the way to undelete the data is by using data file recovery software. Basically the software knows where to look on your hard disk and can recover the file if it hasn't been overwritten even months after you apparently permanently deleted it from your computer.

Data file recovery software has become more and more sophisticated. You can now recover not just deleted files but ones lost due to virus infections or software failure. If you've had to reinstall your operating system again there is software that can cope with this as well. Not only can you do data file recovery from your computer but from external hard drives, flash cards, USB memory sticks, CDs, etc.

Two things to bear in mind are that it is best to run the data file recovery software on another drive i.e. not the one from which you are trying to recover your file. If you don't you will lessen your chances of recovering the file or files you're trying to find as you could potentially overwrite the data while looking for it. Once you have located the missing data then you need to save it to another drive or storage medium such as an external hard drive, a USB stick, CD or DVD.

So if your computer has crashed and your files have disappeared, or you've accidentally deleted something - don't despair. There's a very good chance you'll be able to recover all your precious data files with the minimum of fuss.
